Match notes
Match report: The Blonde Bombers finally faced up to the wonderfully violent world of Blood Bowl, and the end result was akin to throwing a sackful of kittens into a harvesting combine. With two dead and two serious injuries the four players remaining on the pitch at the end can have felt nothing else than relief. And perhaps some small measure of pride about the single touchdown scored.

Rumors has it that despite what could easily be seen as team-ending injuries, the Blonde Bombers attracted the attention of some talent scouts who saw unpolished gems to manipulate. Perhaps the team will loose its wild exhuberance, but if it is to be traded for some staying power then the end result should only benefit the team. The only problem is that the hiatus needed for retraining will surely cause the league comissioners to penalize the team with a negative point. The question is - will the Bombers decide it is worth it?

The Altorf Post wrote the following encapsulation of the match:
The sun was blazing hot and bright as the meagre crowd of only ten thousand fans gathered to see the match between the two unseasoned teams. The better part of the fans cheered for the Blonde Bombers, probably because the bright sun kept many of the Soul Harvesters fans indoors away from the arena.

Blonde Bombers won the coin toss and opted to kick. The Soul Harvesters’ coach looked very pleased when he heard the elves decision. But the smug expression on his face quickly faded as the elves pulled off a quick kick-off followed by a blitz that caught the Soul Harvesters off guard. Two of the elven linemen distracted the flesh golem Ruah Ghoulash so that Leapin' Liz could blitz it, injuring the golem so bad it spent the rest of the match in the casualty-booth. Leapin' Liz then proceeded up the field trying to get under the ball before it hit the ground, but the kick went to deep for her to keep up.

The Soul Harvesters quickly rallied from the lightning blitz of the elves, managing to form a protective cage deep in their own half while the zombies and remaining flesh golem on the line of scrimmage started shambling forward, steam rising from arcane apparatuses transfixed to their decaying bodies.
One of the mechanical fists of Ludwig Knorr managed to connect with the nimble form of Wanna Play injuring her badly.
The shambling mechanical horrors then pressed on up the pitch. In the thick of the fighting Lich Maelvous managed to punch his fist straight thru the chest of Frivolous Sal killing her outright. The Iron Lich immediately begins the foul ritual of merging metal and flesh raising the former elf as a necro-thrall zombie.

The elves used their superior speed and agility to outpace and out-manoeuvre their slower opponents trying to find an opening in the shambling horde where the harvesters’ ball carrier was hiding. All of a sudden one of the bombers wardancers spots an opening and with a spectacular leaping dropkick manages to fell the ball carrier, the ball flying wide out of his hands. The elves quickly snatch the ball and with a practiced grace switch the play from one side of the pitch to the other.

The Soul Harvesters reacts more quickly than you would expect from a Necromantic team to this new threat and manages to form a protective pocket around the elven cage, stalling its advance.

In an attempt to break past the intervening screen of enemy players with the ball, Dinah Might tries to dodge past Lich Tremulus but stumbles and falls, injuring herself so bad the team apothecary fears for her life. In spite of all of the apothecary’s restorative magic she cannot be saved. With the Iron Lich still occupied with the resurrection ritual of Bomber Sal the elves manages to get Dinah Might’s body safely away from the foul necromancer, later to be buried under the big trees in her home forest.

Javeed the ghoul scoops up the ball that fell from Dinah Might’s lifeless hands, runs up and hands it over to Jack Wolfskin who in turn sets of with a ferocious speed that even the elves are hard pressed to match. Only Rosalie Ann manages to intercept the werewolf, felling him short of the end-zone with a vicious tackle.

Furious with rage, fur bristling Jack Wolfskin jumps back on his feet, knocks Rosalie Ann down, grabs the ball and sprints in the first touchdown of the match.

As there is still some time left on first half both teams sets up for another kick-off. The Blonde Bombers receives the ball and shows off some spectacular passing moves but doesn’t even make it across to the opposing half before the time is up.

---

As the teams enter the field for second half it become apparent that the brutal onslaught of the Soul Harvesters has taken its toll on the nimble but fragile elves.
The Blonde Bombers sets up for a heavy strike on one flank, but gets caught off guard as the harvesters manages to pull a blitz of their own. Running up the field Javeed the ghoul makes it all the way under the ball, catching his own kick. Salmagundy a'Dam shambles up close behind him for support.

The elves were not slow to react to this and quickly surrounded the two opposing players in the backfield, tackling Javeed to the ground leaving him stunned, the ball bouncing away. To everyone’s surprise (including its own) Salmagundy a'Dam manages to get hold of the ball. As you can imagine the elves fighting spirit takes a dent by this, but they quickly recover. One of the elves put a boot in the still prone Javeed’s head while the referee got distracted by some commotion in the stands, keeping the ghoul stunned but otherwise unhurt.

Meanwhile on the Line of scrimmage a group of zombies have surrounded several of the elves trying to keep them out of the action. Erich Spehl manages to break Ida Wanna’s jaw with a vicious block, sending the unfortunate elf to the infirmary for some weeks.

Salmagundy a'Dam, unfazed by the elves that try to stand in its way, makes a slow but purposeful progress toward the end-zone, finally scoring a touchdown while the fans go berserk in the stands.

Just as the ball is kicked through the air, a large rock, thrown by an agitated treeman in the crowd, comes crashing down on Salmagundy a'Dam who just scored. The injuries look dreadful as most of the flesh golems stitches break and the large golem literally explode from the impact. But after spending better part of the drive in the dugout getting stitched back together it is ready to take the field once again.

Meanwhile the elves take advantage of the commotion created by the exploding flesh golem, passing the ball around to create confusion. Then in an attempt to open a gap in the line of flesh and steel that evenly covers the entire width of the pitch. Vicious Virgin tries to knock down the abomination that was once her team mate. But Bomber Sal proves to be a tough nut to crack, the wardancer breaking her hand on the armour plates newly infused with flesh, keeping her out of action as the hand will require some weeks to heal.

The elves keeps possession of the ball and keeps up the pressure, and with a long pass to Windy Lou that have managed to sneak up the field, the Blonde Bombers manages to score a touchdown with only four players left on the pitch.

---

All in all an eventful match that made sure the fans really got their money’s worth of both maiming and killing as well as graceful passing play.
