Match notes
A record-breaking crowd showed up in the blinding sunshine to see last seasons champions (the Angry Birds) come back for a rematch against the Zhlaves of Zhatan.
Their last game had ended with a hard-fought victory for the Birds, albeit a somewhat Pyrrhic one as their best player, the amazingly agile Daya was killed during the very last moments of the game.

This time the Birds had more players available, meaning it wouldn't be as easy for the Zhlaves to gain numerical advantage (which they had so handily the last time). In return the Zhlaves could not only field Glart and Nobbla, but also a Beer Babe and enough pocket change to bribe the referee twice over.

Having learned their lesson from the last game, the Birds only brought one coin, not as a bribe, but prepared with two tails. Winning the toss handily the Birds elected to kick, and then swiftly rearranged their off-center defense while the ball was in the air to leave most of the Zhlaves looking at empty air for their opening blocks. This didn't stop Gorduz Gutpuncher from giving Tealle a damaged back, forcing a call for the apothecary before he had even had time to settle down in the dugouts. (Perhaps that was why he claimed curing the injuries would take a full week - but at least Tealle is expected to recover fully)

In return, the Birds showed why it is unwise to leave oneself open to the back. With the Zhlaves heavily set to pressing forwards through the Birds, Derora ran to the limit of her endurance to set up an assist for Tzipporah to run even longer and smack down Talrik Quickfeet, the ball scattering to next to them.

And that's as far as I can remember clearly. The Zhlaves recovered and settled down around the ball, which then got scattered out, the thrower got fouled out of two games but recovered with apothecary assistance, and the ball scattered wildly past several players.

The Zhlaves other thrower then managed to recover the ball after an impressive Zhlaves display of pushing and showing, but he then fell down as he tried to run beyond his usual speed in an attempt to get to safety. The ball was then recovered once more by the Birds, and with plenty of luck brought into a touchdown. (One example was when a goblin sent in to scatter a ball out over the sidelines misunderstood his instructions and picked it up instead, only to spill it immediately afterwards when he was trying to bring it back to safety)

-

The second half had the birds on offense, and saw Glart surfed rather swiftly in exchange for his pressing Circe up against the sidelines. After that it could have been easy street, but it wasn't. The Birds still had to struggle to get ahead, and when Alouette failed a dumpoff and got KO:ed things looked iffy. Only the Underworld thrower didn't get far enough to avoid a return blitz and his subsequent demise at the hands of Tzipporah, allowing the ball to be regathered and brought up to the second and last touchdown of the game.

Having two turns to play for killing some elves, the Zhlaves were distraught by a pitch invasion knocking down five of their players (three on the line) and three elves (not on the line), and apart from a few KO:s more they didn't even get a consolation kill.
